Find Unsurpassed Hope After Loss: Losing My Only Son
Losing someone you love is one of the hardest things in life. When I lost my son, Michael, my heart literally felt broken. I didn’t know how I would ever feel okay again. But little by little, my faith helped me find comfort. I want to share some of the things that brought me peace. I hope they might help you find hope after loss, too.
Holding Onto Faith During Sad Times
At first, the sadness felt too big to handle. But I remembered that Jesus, too, felt deep sadness when His friend Lazarus died. The Bible says in John 11:35 that Jesus wept. Knowing that Jesus understands our sadness helped me. I turned to God in prayer and told Him about my feelings. God didn’t take away my pain, but I felt like He was with me, holding me up. This Bible verse, Psalm 34:18, was a big comfort: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Through prayer, Bible reading, and being around people who cared, I slowly felt a little lighter. I hope that you, too, feel God close to you when you’re hurting.
Small Things That Brought Me Peace
Grieving takes time, and everyone’s journey is different. But here are a few things that helped me find peace.
- Special Reminders of Loved Ones – For me, picturing Michael safe in Jesus’ arms was a big help. I kept this image close in my heart, and it brought me peace. This is why I started In Jesus’ Loving Arms, to help others feel this peace, too. Having something to remember your loved one by can be a big comfort.

- Time for Prayer and Quiet – Spending time in prayer or reading Bible verses helped me each day. In those quiet moments, I felt closer to God. I encourage you to take even a few minutes each day to pray and listen to what God wants to tell you.
- Finding Support from Others – Talking to other believers or joining a group that understands grief can be healing. I found that being with people who had also lost someone helped me feel understood and supported.
Trusting Jesus for Strength
When you lose someone, it’s normal to feel a mix of feelings. I did, too. But every time I prayed, I felt that God knew my heart and was there to comfort me.
Jesus invites us to come to Him with all our feelings, big or small. When we lean on Him, He gives us strength.
God's Promise: Hope After Loss
If you are going through grief, remember that you are not alone. Knowing that Michael is safe in God’s hands gave me comfort. I hope this thought can bring you comfort, too. God promises us that one day, we will see our loved ones again in Heaven. I pray that each day brings you a little closer to peace, and that you feel God’s love with you always.
